Der Grüne See ist ein Karstsee in der Steiermark auf dem Gebiet der Gemeinde Tragöß-Sankt Katharein im Ortsteil Oberort. Der See wird an einer Bergsturzmasse aufgestaut, die in prähistorischer Zeit von der Südflanke der Meßnerin in Richtung Tragöß abrutschte. Die Mittlere Tiefe beträgt ungefähr 4 Meter und die Maximale Tiefe beträgt 8 Meter. Nach der Schneeschmelze füllt sich der See mit klarem Bergwasser und erstrahlt in wunderschönen türkis Tönen. Der Grüne See wird auch deshalb die “Karibik der Hochsteiermark” bezeichnet. Ein toller Ausflugsort umgeben von dichten Wäldern, kleinen Flüssen und einer Flora die zum Fotografieren einlädt.

The Green Lake is a karst lake in Styria in the municipality of Tragöß-Sankt Katharein in the district Oberort. The lake is dammed up by a landslide that slipped from the south flank of the Messnerin towards Tragöß in prehistoric times. The mean depth is about 4 meters and the maximum depth is 8 meters. After the snow melts, the lake fills with clear mountain water and shines in beautiful turquoise tones. The Green Lake is therefore also called the “Caribbean of the Upper Styria”. A great destination surrounded by dense forests, small rivers and a flora that invites you to take pictures.
